Job Summary:

The Diesel Mechanic Assistant is required to skillfully operate a heavy-duty crane mounted truck with utmost safety measures. Their primary duties include loading and transporting material containers to and from various customer locations.

The main tasks and duties that are expected to be performed by an individual in a particular role or job position:

Being able to complete each crucial duty with proficiency is essential to thrive in this job. In addition, minor tasks may be assigned.

• Operating vehicles in accordance with Waste Management's safety and critical life policies. Ensuring compliance with the rules of OSHA (Occupational and Safety Health Act) and DOT (Department of Transportation), as well as relevant local, state and federal laws.
• Conducts thorough inspections of allocated equipment before and after use, documenting the evaluations on a standard DVIR form.
• The Route Manager or Dispatch is immediately notified by staff of any risky situations or service-related issues.
• Conforms to the mandatory briefing sessions, training programs, and meetings required by Waste Management or the Route Supervisor.
• Assists Route Managers in maximizing route efficiency and identifying superior strategies.
• Immediately notifies the route manager about any incidents, accidents, injuries, or damage to property that may occur.
• Reports any service interruptions, including obstructed containers, closed lots, streets, alleys, or potential safety hazards, to the Route Manager or Dispatch.
• The assistance functions as a messenger, conveying customer requests to the Route Manager or Dispatch.
• Timely delivery of completed customer tickets is ensured.
• Examines sites to determine if they provide a conducive environment for safe and effective service delivery.
• Maintains proper positioning or return of container to avoid blocking driveway entrances and traffic and ensures lids and doors are properly replaced.
• Abides by route assignments provided and finishes the end-of-day paperwork and checkout procedure.
• Follows through with all assigned duties in agreement with the schedule provided by the Route Manager or Dispatch and lends a hand to other drivers as necessary to meet customer needs.

The Value of Experience in Education:

• Education: Not required.
• The job necessitates a relevant employment history in which the applicant has obtained a CDL or equivalent military driving certificate, and has operated a vehicle using it within the last seven years for at least one year.
• It is imperative to be able to operate a manual transmission.

The process for obtaining certificates, licenses, registrations, or other necessary documents can be lengthy and involved, often requiring extensive documentation and/or testing:

• An individual must hold a present-day CDL and air brake certification to drive certain kinds of automobiles.
• Meeting the established legal standards to work within the United States.
• The threshold of age required for compliance is set at 18 years.
• The competence to complete physical duties associated with the position, regardless of whether reasonable accommodations are necessary.
• Prior to being hired, candidates must fulfill the requirements of a DOT physical and pass a drug screen as per DOT regulations.
• Gain experience in crane operation through apprenticeships or on-the-job training to supplement your classroom knowledge
